This new guideline outlines the requirements that will allow an acute care facility to use the emergency department area or, in the case of a diagnostic and treatment centre, the emergency resuscitation area as a workplace first aid facility acceptable to WorkSafeBC.

On November 22, 2017, the Board of Directors approved an of extension policy item D2-111-4 of the Prevention Manual. The interim policy applies to all decisions made on or after February 15, 2016 and expires on December 31, 2018.

This guideline has been revised to identify who is considered "a person acceptable to the Board" and has authority for certifying crane operators in British Columbia. Consultations were held with COCA and BCACS (external) and ILS (internal).
Policy update

The application statement of Policy Item D12-196-6 was revised to clarify that the July 4, 2017 amendments do not apply to violations occurring before March 1, 2016 which have resulted in administrative penalties. Violations occurring before March 1, 2016 will still be considered as part of an employer's compliance history for the purposes of determining a repeat penalty amount.

This new guideline provides information on controls for minimizing the risk of musculoskeletal injury ("MSI") when a worker moves a physically-dependent person.
