Access to standards

Many sections of the Occupational Health and Safety Regulation specify standards that must be met for compliance.

When the OHS Regulation references a specific edition of a standard, that edition must be followed unless there is an OHS Guideline accepting another edition as a standard acceptable to the Board.

WorkSafeBC standards

WCB Standards outline specifications and performance criteria for specific types of equipment and machinery. These standards are available online: WCB Standards.

Additional WorkSafeBC standards are included as Schedules in various parts of the OHS Regulation (including Parts 4, 8, 14, and 16).

Canadian Standards Association

The Canadian Standards Association (CSA) allows online access to CSA standards referenced in federal, provincial, and territorial regulations dealing with occupational health and safety.

Users need to create an account on the CSA Communities website to access these standards. The site allows users to view and/or purchase standards referenced in the OHS Regulation.

Other standards

Standards from other organizations are also available online, with or without registration or payment:

In addition, physical copies of some standards can be purchased, or may be available at your public library or through your industry association.
