First aid attendants
As an employer, you must be able to provide care for injured or ill workers. For most workplaces, this means having first aid attendants onsite. Different workplaces need different numbers of first aid attendants with different levels of certification.
Don't know how many first aid attendants you need or what level of certification is required? Complete a first aid assessment to find out.
Providing first aid attendants
As an employer, you must make sure that each first aid attendant at your workplace:
- Is at least 16 years old
- Has completed a first aid training course
- Has a current first aid certificate issued by an agency approved by WorkSafeBC
See Get or renew B.C. workplace first aid certification.
Be sure to have and maintain the correct level of first aid services:
- Make sure that attendants are aware of and able to fulfill their first aid attendant responsibilities.
- Do not assign work to attendants that would interfere with their ability to provide immediate first aid treatment.
- Make sure you have enough first aid attendants to provide proper coverage for planned or unplanned absences.
