Worker responsibilities: First aid
All workers have responsibilities related to workplace first aid.
As a worker, you must:
-
Report all injuries and exposures to hazardous materials as soon as possible, even if they do not require first aid treatment. Report these to your supervisor and a first aid attendant, if your workplace has one.
-
Participate in training related to first aid procedures.
-
Know how to call for a first aid attendant if needed.
-
Know how to access first aid supplies.
-
Let your employer know about any barriers to getting first aid treatment (for example, if there is a language or cultural barrier that makes it difficult to communicate with the first aid attendant).
-
Participate in first aid drills if asked.
-
Provide input into the first aid assessment or procedures if asked.
If you’re unsure about these responsibilities, talk to your supervisor or employer.
You should also be aware of the first aid roles and responsibilities across your workplace.
