Inspections & prevention activities

As part of our initiative to reduce the serious injury rate by applying resources and effort where they will be most effective, WorkSafeBC officers are inspecting workplaces and conducting consultation and education activities.

Activities Details
Primary inspectional focus Focus inspections on five main fishing and marine areas:
  • Longline and trap fishing
  • Trawl fishing
  • Seine fishing — herring and salmon
  • Dive fishing and commercial diving
  • Tug and barge
Secondary inspectional focus Focus inspections on other marine and fishing activities:
  • Tug and barge
  • Log towing
  • Troll — salmon and tuna
  • Fish packing
  • Commercial vessels (eco-tourism, whale watching, fish farm support, water taxi, landing barge)
Awareness and education activities
  • Continue the PFD awareness campaign
  • Develop best practices documents for high-risk fishing and marine sectors
  • Review of emergency response plans (ERPs)
