Protection of your privacy

We recognize the importance of your privacy and we are committed to protecting your personal information. All information held by WorkSafeBC is subject to the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA). This law sets specific limits on the information we can disclose.

FIPPA ensures we are accountable for the information we collect by:

  • Giving you the right to obtain your personal information, and to make corrections to it as necessary
  • Preventing the unauthorized collection, use, or disclosure of your personal information
  • Providing a review by an independent information and privacy commissioner of decisions regarding the collection, use, or disclosure of information

How we protect your privacy

Under FIPPA, we are permitted to collect only the personal information we need, and to only use it for the purpose for which we collect it. Use of information for other purposes, including research, may be permitted by FIPPA within strict guidelines

The law limits what information we can share with others. We must also transmit, store, and destroy your personal information securely.

Our privacy statement explains the guidelines we use to protect your personal information.

Making a privacy complaint

If you think your privacy has been violated, you may contact either our Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Office or the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for B.C. Please do not send your complaint to both offices.

Requesting a correction of your information

If there is a factual error in your personal information, you should first contact the WorkSafeBC department that has the information. Please provide a clear description of the error, identify where it occurs in your records, and explain how it should be corrected.

If there are any questions about the requested changes, or we decline to make a change, you can make a written request to our Freedom of Information team for the correction.
