Frequently asked questions: Asbestos abatement licensing update
What is changing on August 24, 2026?
We’re releasing an updated online asbestos abatement licence application form. The updated application form will include:
- Clearer instructions
- A few additional questions
- A requirement to provide some basic supporting documents at the time of application
Refer to the instructions in online services for details about what supporting documents you need to provide when applying.
We recommend having this information ready before you start so you can complete the application in one sitting. After you complete the application, email your documents to licensing@worksafebc.com. Put your WorkSafeBC account number in the subject line.
Why are you making these changes?
The changes are based on feedback we received from licensees. Providing more complete information up front reduces delays, cuts down on requests for missing documents, and speeds up processing.
I have an application already in progress, but I haven’t submitted it yet. Does this update affect me?
If you’ve already started an application, please submit it by August 23, 2026. The application system will be updated on August 24, and any unsubmitted information will be lost.
Does this change my licence fee?
No. There is no fee to apply or renew.
Does this change how long my licence lasts?
No. This update is to the application only — there are no changes to the licensing program, who needs a licence, or how long a licence lasts.
Providing more information feels like more work. What’s the benefit to me?
The update to the application should mean you experience a smoother, faster process. Providing more complete information up front reduces delays, cuts down on requests for missing documents, and speeds up processing.
