Home care
Masks in hospitals and health care settings
Effective April 8, 2024, medical masks are no longer required in health care settings. Visitors are still encouraged to wear masks in health care settings and to practice respiratory etiquette. Health care workers must continue to wear appropriate personal protective equipment, including masks or respirators, in accordance with workplace risk assessments. For more information, visit the Province of B.C.’s website.
Providing home care can present additional health and safety challenges, as most homes were never intended or designed to be workplaces. The three most common causes of work-related injuries are overexertion; slips, trips, and falls; and motor vehicle incidents. Home care workers may also be exposed to infectious diseases and violent behaviour.
