Discussion Paper - Multiple Classification
Usually when an employer registered with WorkSafeBC, the employer was assigned to a single classification unit (“CU”) based on the industrial activity of the business. Where an employer was involved in more than one industrial activity, WorkSafeBC considered the criteria set out in the multiple classification policy to determine whether payroll for the additional industrial activity was assigned to one or more CUs.
At issue was a review of the multiple classification policy, including the question of how to assign a single CU to an employer that did not meet the requirements for multiple classification but conducted operations spanning more than one activity. Also at issue was a review of the list of special hazard operations contained in the policy.
