Discussion Paper - Substances with new Occupational Exposure Limits in 2006

Section 5.48 of the Occupational Health and Safety Regulation provided that, except as otherwise determined by WorkSafeBC, a worker’s exposure to a hazardous chemical substance must not exceed the occupational exposure limits established by the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (“ACGIH”). WorkSafeBC Policy R5.48-1 provided a list of exceptions where it had been determined that a specific limit established by the ACGIH was not appropriate for adoption in British Columbia.

Each year, the ACGIH publishes a list of substances for which they have set new occupational exposure limits. Attached is a list of these substances and the corresponding new limits now in effect in B.C.
