Discussion Paper

In the fall of 2003, the Policy and Research Division ("PRD") commissioned Cancer Care Ontario ("CCO") to conduct a scientific systematic review of the occupation of firefighting and the risk of cancer. The CCO final report was submitted to the PRD in June of 2004. A peer review of the CCO report, prepared by two external experts, was submitted to the PRD in October 2004. CCO submitted a response to the peer review in November 2004. Following analysis of the CCO and peer review reports, the PRD has developed a discussion paper on Firefighters and Certain Cancers for consideration by stakeholders.
