Tandem lifts from barges to land

Unloading long and heavy loads, such as culvert bundles or modular bridges, from a barge onto land is a frequent activity along the west coast of British Columbia. Unloading usually involves two pieces of mobile equipment (a tandem lift) operated by two or more independent employers.

This bulletin describes how to carry out tandem lifts safely. It includes requirements for the load, the equipment, rigging slings, lift plans, and communication between everyone involved.
