An Evaluation of the Impact of the WorkSafeNB Focus Firms Intervention on Reported Safety Behaviour and Injury Outcomes
This project was an investigation of the influence of workplace culture on injury outcomes, evaluating the impact of the Focus Firms Initiative, a WorkSafeNB program targeting firms with poor safety records. The researchers examined the degree to which workers indicate how they are provided with education about hazards, with training and responsibility for health and safety, and with safe workplaces with a commitment from management
After eight years of working with employers, WorkSafeNB sought to evaluate the impact of the Focus Firms Initiative on safety performance. This project assessed changes in injury data and workplace safety measures using data from the program
The results of this study suggest that interventions designed to build capacity in firms demonstrating poor safety performance can yield positive changes in injury outcomes. Due to reliability and validity issues with the data collection survey, and a small sample size, the researchers caution that the results should not be generalized to other firms or industries
