Working in and around traffic
Roadside work, or working in the “cone zone,” is dangerous. From 2013 to 2022 in B.C., 9 roadside workers were killed and 239 were injured and missed time from work as a result of being hit by a motor vehicle.
Roadside worksites involve hundreds of activities — not just road construction. Workers in roadside work zones include:
- First responders
- Landscapers
- Municipal workers
- Telecommunications and utility workers
- Tow truck drivers
- Traffic control persons
- Truck drivers
See the links below for resources to help keep workers safe when working in and around traffic. Additional resources on work zone safety are available from Road Safety at Work.
