Amendment to footwear regulationsPublished on: April 19, 2017
On April 7, 2017 the government of B.C., by order in council, amended the footwear regulation under the Workers Compensation Act.
The amendment to section 8.22 of the Occupational Health and Safety Regulation requires footwear to be of a design, construction and material that allows workers to safely perform their work, and explicitly states that employers cannot require workers to wear footwear contrary to this standard. This amendment took effect immediately.
A guideline on what employers need to do to be in compliance with the Regulation change will be available by the end of April.
