Nine-digit employer account numbers now being assigned

In November 2018, we began assigning nine-digit WorkSafeBC employer account numbers to employers who open a new account with us. The nine-digit numbers for new employer accounts allow our system to accommodate more employers. If you’re an employer who already has an account with us, your six-digit account number will not be affected or changed.

Clearance letters

If you’re checking an employer’s clearance letter status, you may notice that an employer’s account number can have either six or nine digits. Both formats are valid.

Reporting on behalf of clients

If you’re a third party who reports on behalf of clients, you can continue to report and pay using the methods listed on Report payroll for your clients.

If you use additional systems to track client information, you may need to adapt them to accommodate the new nine-digit numbers.

E-banking numbers for financial institutions

In addition to the new nine-digit employer account numbers, financial institutions will need to ensure that their system can support expanded e-banking numbers. Employers use this number to add WorkSafeBC as a payee for online banking. The e-banking number has expanded from seven to nine digits for newly registered employers. If you're an employer who already has an e-banking number with us, it will not be affected or changed.
