Discussion Paper - Claims Avoidance: Attempting to Prevent Reporting

The Policy and Regulation Development Bureau previously consulted on the general issue of claims avoidance. In March 2000, the Bureau distributed a consultation paper that discussed a proposed definition of claims avoidance and an enforcement strategy that included experience rating surcharges.

While the Bureau was again seeking comment on an issue concerning claims avoidance, the focus of this discussion changed. As part of a larger Corporate Fraud Strategy, the Board considered the issue of claims avoidance in light of existing provisions of the Workers Compensation Act and Board policy.
