This edition of the Prevention Manual reflects the following updates.

Occupational Health and Safety Compliance Orders Policy D12-187-1

At its January 2013 meeting, WorkSafeBC's Board of Directors approved amendments to the Policy regarding Occupational Health and Safety ("OHS") Compliance Orders — Policy D12-187-1. The Board of Directors' resolution is available for reference. 

The amendments provide greater discretion regarding writing orders to be consistent with the discretion provided in the Workers Compensation Act and with the practice of WorkSafeBC officers.

A discussion paper relating to the proposed amendments was taken to public consultation from June 1 to September 14, 2012.

These amendments will become effective on March 1, 2013.

Occupational Health and Safety Compliance Orders Policy D12-187-1 Occupational Health and Safety Penalty Stay Requests Policy D12-196-7

At its January 2013 meeting, WorkSafeBC's Board of Directors approved amendments to the policy regarding Occupational Health and Safety ("OHS") Penalty Stay Requests, D12-196-7. The Board of Directors' resolution is available for reference.

The amendments allow WorkSafeBC to take limited legal action where necessary while a penalty stay request is outstanding, clarify when a penalty stay request begins and ends, and treat claims cost levy stay requests in the same way as OHS penalty stay requests.

A discussion paper relating to the proposed amendments was taken to public consultation from June 1 to October 12, 2012.

These amendments will become effective on March 1, 2013.
