Stability and handling hazards of driving trucks and trailers with live loads

Transporting live loads can affect a vehicle’s handling and stability. A live load is one in which a tank contains a liquid such as water, brine, oil, or milk. Employers are responsible for ensuring that workers receive training and instruction to carry live loads safely.

This resource supports employers by outlining driving hazards, engineering considerations, and training topics to help keep workers safe while transporting live loads. It also supports workers by helping them understand their rights to receive training and refuse unsafe work.
