Discussion paper - Variable Earnings

WorkSafeBC policy in the Rehabilitation Services and Claims Manual, Volume II provided guidance on setting short-term average earnings for variable shift workers.

At issue was whether policy on Variable Shift Workers should be revised to: reference on call workers; introduce a more flexible approach to determining short-term average earnings; exclude prior periods of wage-loss compensation; and ensure consistent use of the terms “date of injury” and “time of injury” in policy.
