Ultrasound Guided Dextrose Injections as a New Treatment for Chronic Overuse Tendon Injuries

This research was designed to test the effectiveness of an ultrasound guided injection of specially prepared dextrose solution to reduce pain and improve the physical ability of individuals who have experienced tendon pain for an extended period of time. The researchers aimed to focus on injuries specific to Achilles, heel, knee, and elbow tendons

This study tested the effectiveness of a treatment for chronic tendon pain, in which a solution is injected into areas of the tendon that show signs of degeneration, as identified through an ultrasound examination. The goal of this procedure is to stimulate healing in the damaged areas of the tendon. A total of 108 tendons in the Achilles, heel (plantar fascia), knee or elbow area were treated using this method

The change in level of pain for patients by the end of treatment and at long term followup was assessed, as were physical changes in the tendons occurring over the course of treatment
