Amendments to Part 31, Firefighting, of the Occupational Health and Safety Regulation will come into effect on October 1, 2026.

These amendments align the Regulation with the definitions of “worker” and “firefighter” in the Workers Compensation Act and clarify how health and safety requirements apply to society fire brigades, volunteer firefighters, and other fire personnel.

WorkSafeBC has launched a new Society Fire Brigades and Volunteer Firefighters webpage to help volunteer fire departments, societies, and others understand and prepare for the upcoming amendments.
