New slide show highlights the importance of protecting workers from the hazards of confined spaces in agriculture

Published on: August 29, 2022

The hazards present in confined spaces can be deadly for those who enter without proper training, equipment, and procedures in place.

Liquid manure spreaders are used on farms to fertilize fields. Their tanks, which hold the liquid, are considered confined spaces. The tanks can pose a serious hazard because they may contain toxic gases and an atmosphere so low in oxygen that the air is not safe to breathe.

This slide show uses photos taken from an actual incident site, and animations, to tell us about an incident where a worker lost consciousness after entering a manure tank.
