Item R33.14-1 of the Prevention Manual sets out the precautions to be followed by a first aid attendant to prevent contact with blood or body fluids when treating a worker. The Panel deleted the reference to barrier cream being a suitable alternative to latex or other waterproof gloves in such cases from this Item. Barrier cream does not provide the necessary protection. Item R33.14-1 was one of the consolidated Occupational First Aid policies approved by the Panel effective October 1, 2000.
