New certification requirements

Certification requirements are now in effect for concrete pump operators. As of January 1, 2024, no one may operate a concrete pump or placing boom at a workplace unless they hold a valid concrete pump operator certificate issued by a certification authority approved by WorkSafeBC.

If you are an employer and have not yet certified your crew, the equipment can be operated under the supervision of someone with a valid concrete pump operator certificate until the rest of your crew gets certified. Operator training must be specific to the class or type of concrete pump or placing boom being operated.

Concrete pump operator certificates are granted by the British Columbia Construction Safety Alliance. To get certified, please visit the BCCSA’s Certified Concrete Pump Operator Program website.
