Young Worker Speakers Program

Jack Thomas

An avid drummer and aspiring musician, Jack Thomas was just 17 when he lost his arm to a workplace accident at a recycling facility. As Jack was cleaning around a sorting conveyer, the belt suddenly started up and his sleeve was caught in the exposed roller. “It was just a summer job. I didn’t think at all about making my own safety a priority. It just wasn’t on my mind.” Undaunted, Jack continues to pursue a career in music and hopes telling his story will encourage other young workers to make safety their number one priority.
