The Health Care Payment Officer is responsible for receiving, adjudicating and processing accounts for all treatment expenses associated with claims; processing a variety of health care, long term care, transportation, and for a variety of associated duties as assigned.

In addition to the ability to meet necessary physical and performance standards, applicants must demonstrate sufficient knowledge, skills and abilities in:

    1. Demonstrated ability to independently manage a high volume multi-task workload in a timely and efficient manner to meet individual and organizational goals and performance objectives.
    2. Demonstrated ability to complete multiple, concurrent tasks quickly and efficiently, working independently and within a team, in an environment that includes constant interruptions and changing priorities.
    3. Demonstrated ability to actively listen and communicate effectively to a variety of individuals with varying backgrounds, levels of understanding and knowledge in positve and negative circumstances.
    4. Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate in a persuasive, assertive, empathetic, respectful manner usually over the phone with a cross section of people by actively listening and questioning for pertinent information.
    5. Demonstrated ability to actively listen; communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, in a tactful manner with internal and external contacts.
    6. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain working relationships with a variety of individuals.

    11. Demonstrated ability to accurately perform payment calculations.
    12. Demonstrated ability to type 25 wpm net.
    13. General knowledge of medical terminology.
    14. Demonstrated ability to represent the organization by assuming responsibility for providing courteous and empathetic service to meet the expectations of clients.
    15. Demonstrated ability to provide quality customer service in a timely manner while exhibiting diplomacy and professionalism, particularly in resolving a customer problem/complaint.

Applicants will be required to demonstrate sufficient knowledge, skills and abilities in respect of the foregoing through a variety of assessment tools. Seniority will, subject to sufficient knowledge, skills and abilities, be the deciding factor in selecting successful applicants from among the applicants for this position.

    5. This position requires the incumbent to maintain currency with internal and external programs and services, projects and enhancements pertaining to Health Care Services and Health Care technologies.
    6. This position requires the incumbent to work on an ACD telephone queue.
    7. This position requires the incumbent to communicate with clients who may be upset, frustrated and/or hostile.
    8. This position requires the incumbent to work in a team environment.
    9. This position requires the incumbent to successfully meet the requirements of a criminal record check according to the Criminal Records Review Act. A renewal of the check will be required every 5 years. If you are charged with or are convicted of a relevant offence under the Criminal Records Review Act, you must report the charge or conviction to the Director of HR Initiatives & Services immediately (HR CRC confidential mailbox) and provide the employer a criminal record check authorization for a further criminal record check. Pursuant to Clause 17.06(a), employees who have accepted a position in pay groups U01 to U03 (with a maximum of 186 points under the job evaluation plan) are precluded from applying for posted positions for a period of six (6) calendar months from the date of accepting a position unless the Director of your department gives you permission to do so. Employees who have accepted a position in pay groups U03 (with a minimum of 187 points under the job evaluation plan) to U11 are precluded from applying for posted positions for a period of fifteen (15) calendar months from the date of accepting a position unless the Director of your department gives you permission to do so.
