As part of our strategy to reduce the serious injury rate by applying resources and effort where they will be most effective, WorkSafeBC officers are inspecting workplaces and conducting consultation and education activities.

Focused inspections
Q1–Q4 2020

Primary focus: Serious injury prevention

Assess whether employers are managing risks within the restaurant services and towing services industries:

  • Notify stakeholders, including employers and industry associations, about this initiative via letter and email
  • Conduct initial inspections
  • Educate employers about top risks in their workplaces and industry
  • Assess workers’ exposure to, and employers’ management of, risks in their workplaces
  • Issue corrective orders aligned with unmanaged risks where non-compliance with legislative requirements is found
  • Additional focus for restaurants: Slips, trips and falls and struck by or against; new and young worker orientation and training
  • Additional focus for towing and traffic control: Struck by and falls; supporting Work Zone Safety Alliance (i.e., Cone Zone)
Creating new partnerships with industry

Engage with recycling stakeholders to ensure employers manage fire and explosion risks

Adapt and create health and safety tools, including a new and young worker package based on job safety analyses
