As part of our strategy to reduce the serious injury rate by applying resources and effort where they will be most effective, WorkSafeBC officers are inspecting workplaces and conducting other consultation and education activities.

Consultation: Focus on education, consultation, and creating partnerships with stakeholders
Q2 2021

Align efforts with the amended OHS Regulation, Part 18: Traffic Control, coming into force:

  • Meet with employers and other stakeholders to ensure they are aware of the changes to OHS Regulation
  • Consult with employers about risks in the workplace
  • Emphasize risk elimination and engineering controls as preferred options
  • Discuss employers’ capabilities, spanning from hazard identification to plan management
  • Provide recommendations and resources
Balanced approach: Increase enforcement activities
Q3–Q4 2021
  • Continue education and consultation efforts and increase enforcement efforts
  • Probe employers to assess whether they have employed increased knowledge and resources to ensure:
    - Risks are effectively controlled
    - Compliance with the OHS Regulation
