As part of our strategy to reduce the serious injury rate by applying resources and effort where they will be most effective, our officers are inspecting workplaces and conducting consultation and education activities.

Focused inspections
Q1–Q4 2022
  • Conduct comprehensive confined space inspections of employers in industry sectors identified as having workers who potentially enter confined spaces
  • Re-visit employers that were inspected over the past few years as part of the municipality initiative to ensure that their efforts to address confined spaces remain in place

Additional focus on:

  • Ship-building sector
  • Ready-mix and concrete plants
  • Contractors that service municipalities
  • Contractors that perform shutdown/maintenance work at large facilities
  • Mushroom farms and composting facilities
  • Oil and gas operations
Consultation and education
Q1–Q4 2022
  • Undertake consultative and educational activities as necessary to support employers, workers, and broader industry efforts to improve confined space awareness and compliance
  • Re-engage with the ship-building sector to verify compliance and to share best practices among employers
