Oil and gas amendments to Occupational Health and Safety Regulation (Part 23) now in effect

Published on: August 01, 2017

At its March 2017 meeting, WorkSafeBC's Board of Directors approved amendments to Part 23 of the Occupational Health and Safety Regulation (OHSR). These amendments came into effect August 1, 2017.

Due to advancing technologies, the operating pressures of flow piping systems are now far greater than the pressures when the current OHSR requirements were developed. Serious injuries can occur to workers when flow piping systems fail and the component parts are not restrained properly.

The revisions to the OHSR are intended to enhance the performance-based regulations for flow piping systems by introducing requirements for integrity assurance programs into the regulation, and improving the requirements for pipe restraints. The changes also clarify existing regulations by better reflecting current best practices of the industry.
