Details of the fall 2006 and January 2007 public hearings

January 2, 2007 Update: Public hearings have been rescheduled for Kelowna and Nanaimo in January 2007. The Board of Directors, at its December 2006 meeting, directed that these public hearings be rescheduled to ensure stakeholders have the opportunity to provide input at these locations on the proposed regulation changes. Hearings at these locations were cancelled in November 2006 due to severe weather conditions.

Following the public hearings in May 2006, the Board of Directors approved an additional public hearing for the fall of 2006, as part of the 2006 regulatory review process, to bring forward proposals to expand the scope of section 6.36 to require the use of safety-engineered devices for all hollow bore needles and other medical sharps. As a result, proposed amendments were taken to fall public hearings in 2006.

In addition, the Minister of Labour and Citizens’ Services had requested that WorkSafeBC address through regulation:

  • The orientation and training needs of new workers with respect to worker safety; and
  • Prepayment for gasoline at service stations in urban areas during the late night and early morning hours.

Accordingly, proposed amendments were prepared for Parts 3 and 4 of the Occupational Health and Safety Regulation and these amendments were included in the fall 2006 public hearings.

The public hearings provide stakeholders with an opportunity to comment on these additional proposed regulatory amendments. WorkSafeBC welcomes your feedback on the proposed amendments either through written submissions or participation at the public hearings.

Written submissions and the transcripts from the oral presentations will be posted on WorkSafeBC’s website after the public hearings. Submissions are releasable under the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.
