Details of the May — June 2010 public hearings

The public hearings will provide stakeholders with an opportunity to comment on the proposed regulatory amendments. WorkSafeBC welcomes your feedback on the amendments either through written submissions or participation at the oral public hearings. All feedback received will be presented to the Board of Directors of WorkSafeBC for their consideration.

Please note that the public consultation phase is separate from the public hearing process. Accordingly, if you provided comments during consultation, and you wish your feedback to be considered during the public hearing process, would you please make another submission on the proposed amendments.

Written submissions will be accepted until 4:30 p.m. on Friday, June 4, 2010.

To register to make an oral presentation at the public hearings

Registration is required if you would like to make an oral presentation at a public hearing location. To register, please call 604 232-7744 or toll free in B.C. at 1 866 614-7744. One presentation from an organization or individual will be permitted.

A maximum of 10 minutes will be allotted to each person or organization per regulatory amendment package, and a maximum of 20 minutes for comments on multiple amendment packages.

When registering, please have the following information available:

  • Name of presenter
  • Whether you represent a worker or employer
  • Whether you are presenting on your own behalf or on behalf of an organization (if on behalf of an organization, please specify the name of the organization)
  • Public hearing location you wish to make your presentation
  • Preferred session time (afternoon or evening)
  • E-mail address
  • Contact telephone number

Confirmation of the hearing time will be sent to you after registration.

To make a written submission

Please include the following information in your written submission:

  • Name of submitter(s)
  • Whether you are submitting on your own behalf or on behalf of an organization (if on behalf of an organization, please specify the name of the organization)
  • Whether you are commenting from a worker's perspective or an employer's perspective
  • Your level of support — whether you generally agree, are generally neutral, or generally disagree with the proposed regulatory amendments
  • The reasons for your level of support and the section number(s) you are commenting on

Written submissions can also be delivered to the public hearing locations during the public hearing sessions.

Written submissions and transcripts from the oral presentations will be available to the public on WorkSafeBC.com after completion of the hearing process. WorkSafeBC may publish the name of any person making a submission but will not disclose personal contact information. Any other personal information provided in a submission, including opinions contained therein, may be disclosed by WorkSafeBC through publication or otherwise in accordance with the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act or by law generally. By providing a submission to WorkSafeBC during this process, either orally or in writing, presenters thereby consent to disclosure of their personal information. Publication by WorkSafeBC does not equate to endorsement of the views of the presenter.
