Terms of Reference

In July 2008, WorkSafeBC initiated a review of the Policy & Practice Consultative Committee (PPCC) to ensure it continues to be an effective avenue for obtaining stakeholder input and advice. In October 2008, a report (PDF 218kb) was published documenting the review findings and outlining fifteen recommendations to clarify the committee’s role, structure, and priorities.

One of the recommendations in the report was for PPCC members to engage in a facilitated discussion about their Terms of Reference, with a focus on the role of industry members. In November 2009, the Terms of Reference (PDF 34kb) were finalized.

Another recommendation arising from the review was to develop a process protocol (PDF 133kb) for PPCC meetings. The recommendation was made to ensure that the PPCC remains a forum in which employers and workers are on an even footing to learn about and provide feedback on WorkSafeBC’s policies, regulations, guidelines, and other key issues.

The final recommendation to be completed was a paper defining WorkSafeBC’s approach to stakeholder engagement (PDF 141kb) in the policy and regulation development process. The recommendation was made to provide clarity in the role of the PPCC within WorkSafeBC’s broader stakeholder engagement activities.

As of November 2010, all fifteen recommendations outlined in the report have been agreed upon and completed, or involve ongoing work. A progress report (PDF 51kb)summarizes the recommendations and implementation dates.
