The following is a summary of the policy decisions finalized by the WCB Panel of Administrators on May 17, 2001. For information about the function and mandate of the Panel, please see Governing Structure.
The Panel has made a decision to repeal Sections 8, 9 and 9.1 of the Fishing Industry Regulations. These provisions date from the 1970s and relate to occupational health and safety matters. They have been superseded by a number of statutory and regulatory developments with respect to occupational health and safety, in particular the Workers Compensation (Occupational Health and Safety) Amendment Act, 1998 (Bill 14) and the Occupational Health and Safety Regulation. The repeal comes into force 90 days after deposit with the Registrar of Regulations.

By resolution dated May 17, 2001, the Panel of Administrators clarified an earlier resolution (98/04/23-03, "Re: Section 39(1)(e)", dated April 23, 1998) as it relates to the payment of interest on historical relief of costs claims where wage loss concluded or a pension was awarded after March 15, 1978 and on or before December 31, 1993. The May 17 resolution confirms that on historical relief of cost claims, interest on all refunds is payable from the date of the request for relief, whether the request predates the April 23, 1998 resolution or was made thereafter.
