Occupational Disease Codes

THE WORKERS' COMPENSATION BOARD OF BRITISH COLUMBIA

RESOLUTION OF THE PANEL OF ADMINISTRATORS

November 13, 1998

Re: Occupational Disease Codes

WHEREAS:

Pursuant to Section 82 of the Workers Compensation Act, RSBC 1996, Chapter 492 and amendments thereto (the "Act"), the Panel of Administrators (the "Panel") must approve and superintend the policies and direction of the Workers' Compensation Board (the "Board"), including policies respecting compensation, assessment, rehabilitation and occupational safety and health;

AND WHEREAS:

Assessment Policy Manual No. 30:50:52 and Rehabilitation Services and Claims Manual No. 115.30 provide that claims costs for certain occupational diseases are to be excluded from consideration for experience rating purposes;

AND WHEREAS:

The excluded occupational diseases are listed by name and statistical code in item 5 of each policy;

AND WHEREAS:

The coding system for injuries and occupational diseases has been changed, making the coding in the Manuals obsolete;

AND WHEREAS:

The use of a particular code does not determine whether a claim is excluded for experience rating purposes; rather, a claim is excluded if the disease is one of the diseases listed in item 5 of the Manuals;

AND WHEREAS:

The statistical coding is used solely for internal administrative purposes to flag the claim when it comes time to do the experience rating calculation for the particular employer and can be dealt with by internal directive;

THE PANEL OF ADMINISTRATORS RESOLVES THAT:

Assessment Policy Manual No. 30:50:52 and Rehabilitation Services and Claims Manual No. 115.30 are amended to remove references to the occupational disease codes from each policy.
