Policy decision finalized at the March 2010 WorkSafeBC Board of Directors meeting

The following Resolutions were finalized by WorkSafeBC's Board of Directors in March 2010. For information about the function and mandate of the Board of Directors, please see Governing Structure.

Charging Claim Costs to Employers

On March 17, 2010, the Board of Directors approved changes to AP1-47-2, Charging Claim Costs to Employers, in the Assessment Manual and the deletion of policy item #115.11, Procedure for Applying Section 47(2) of the Rehabilitation Services & Claims Manual, Volume II.  These changes were made to remove duplication of policy.

These amendments come into effect on June 1, 2010, and apply to all decisions made on or after that date.

Minimum Exemptions for Contractor Liability

On March 17, 2010, the Board of Directors approved amendments to Item AP1-51-1and Appendix “A” in the Assessment Manual.  The amendments remove the reference to the minimum exemption amounts below which WorkSafeBC will not attempt to recover a subcontractor’s unpaid premiums from a contractor or homeowner.  The minimum exemption amounts will now be established by the Collections Department.

These amendments come into effect on June 1, 2010, and apply to all decisions made on or after that date.

Provisional Rates

At the March 17, 2010 meeting, the Board of Directors approved the following amendments to policy item #65.04, Provisional Rate, in the Rehabilitation Services & Claims Manual, Volume II.

The changes to the Provisional Rate policy include:

  • setting out that a provisional rate may be used when setting both short-term and long-term wage rates; and
  • revising references to “worker’s average net earnings” to “worker’s average earnings” for consistency with the other average earnings policies in Chapter 9.
