Policy decision finalized at the December 2010 WorkSafeBC Board of Directors meeting

The following Resolutions were finalized by WorkSafeBC's Board of Directors in December 2010. For information about the function and mandate of the Board of Directors, please see Governing Structure.

Section 251 Decision – Interest Payment Period on Amounts Refunded to Employers

At its meeting on December 8, 2010, the Board of Directors considered a decision of a Vice Chair of the Workers’ Compensation Appeal Tribunal that Item AP1-39-2 of the Assessment Manual relating to the provision of interest on amounts refunded to an employer after a successful review or appeal was not supported by the Workers Compensation Act.

The Board of Directors approved changes to the policy at the December 8, 2010 meeting.  You may examine the resolution (PDF 61kb) of the Board of Directors.  The policy change is effective September 22, 2010.

Section 3(7) Work Study/Work Experience Programs

On December 8, 2010, the Board of Directors approved the expansion of the terms and conditions of coverage for public and independent school students engaged in work study/work experience programs. The changes in terms and conditions of coverage expanded the definition of work experience so that all students engaged in non-paid, school-arranged work experience programs are covered by WorkSafeBC, not just students participating in work experience in order to meet their Graduation Transitions requirements.

The Order-in-Council approving these two resolutions is effective July 21, 2011.
