Policy decisions finalized at the March, 2005 WorkSafeBC Board of Directors meetings

The following resolutions were finalized by WorkSafeBC's (the WCB) Board of Directors in March 2005. For information about the function and mandate of the Board of Directors, please see Governing Structure.

The Construction Industry Experience Rating Program

The Board of Directors has approved an Experience Rating ("ER") Program for the Construction Industry that limits surcharges and discounts available to construction industry firms under the ER program to 33.3%, effective January 1, 2006.

Per the resolution, the program will remain in place until 2010, when its effectiveness will be evaluated by WorkSafeBC. You may examine the complete resolution (PDF 26kb). For further information on this issue, please contact Gerry Paquette at 604 244-6321.

Minor Changes to the Assessment Manual

At its meeting on March 22, 2005, the Board of Directors approved changes to two policies in the Assessment Manual. Changes were made to:

  • Item AP1-38-2 (Payroll — Categories), to clarify the retroactive limit to payroll restatement for a prime contractor in situations where the WCB backdates the registration of a subcontracting firm, and
  • Item AP1-88-1 (Audits), to add a statement providing that the law and policy in effect at the time period covered in an audit is used to determine compliance, unless a subsequent law or policy change provides otherwise.

The policy amendments take effect on April 1, 2005.
