Fishing Policy Consultation: Assessing and Collecting on Out-of-Province Sales and Direct Sales to the Public

The Policy and Regulation Development Bureau would like your views on the attached consultation paper on "Assessing and Collecting on Out-of-Province Sales and Direct Sales to the Public."

Currently, the WCB does not collect assessments on either out-of-province sales or direct sales to the public. Because most fishers who engage in these activities are entitled to full compensation coverage, this has contributed to a WCB funding shortfall in the fishing industry. The WCB is seeking feedback from stakeholders on proposed solutions for addressing this problem.

The consultation package consists of:

A Fish Harvesting Industry Update faxed to stakeholders in advance of the consultation paper. The purpose of the Update was to provide a progress report on WCB activities in the fishing industry over the past year and to inform stakeholders of activities planned for the future.

The consultation paper on "Assessing and Collecting on Out-of-Province Sales and Direct Sales to the Public" distributed on February 16, 2000.
