Usually when an employer registers with WorkSafeBC, the employer is assigned to a single classification unit (“CU”) based on the industrial activity of the business. Where an employer is involved in more than one industrial activity, WorkSafeBC considers the criteria set out in the multiple classification policy to determine whether payroll for the additional industrial activity is assigned to one or more CUs.
At issue is a review of the multiple classification policy, including the question of how to assign a single CU to an employer that does not meet the requirements for multiple classification but conducts operations spanning more than one activity. Also at issue is a review of the list of special hazard operations contained in the policy.
At its meeting on March 19, 2008, the Board of Directors approved the release of a discussion paper with options and proposed policy amendments to stakeholders for comment. Proposed deletions of policy wording are identified with a strikethrough and additions are identified in bold.
