Regulation and Policy in the Fishing Industry

In two recent decisions the Workers' Compensation Appeal Tribunal identified a need to clarify the way in which the fishing industry is to be assessed. At issue are the regulation and/or policy changes that would be required in order to clarify:

  1. the proper identification of firms that must pay assessment premiums in the fishing industry, and
  2. the manner in which such firms' assessment premium amounts may be calculated.

The Policy and Research Division has developed a discussion paper on Regulation and Policy in the Fishing Industry (PDF 100kb) for consideration by stakeholders.

Stakeholders are invited to review the discussion paper, options, and draft regulations and policy, and provide feedback until September 30, 2005. When responding, please provide your name, organization, and address. Comments may be sent by mail, fax or e-mail to:
