Firefighters and Certain Cancers
In the fall of 2003, the Policy and Research Division ("PRD") commissioned Cancer Care Ontario ("CCO") to conduct a scientific systematic review of the occupation of firefighting and the risk of cancer. The CCO final report was submitted to the PRD in June of 2004.
A peer review of the CCO report, prepared by two external experts, was submitted to the PRD in October 2004.
CCO submitted a response to the peer review in November 2004.
Following analysis of the CCO and peer review reports, the PRD has developed a discussion paper on Firefighters and Certain Cancers for consideration by stakeholders.
Stakeholders are invited to review the discussion paper and provide feedback on the proposed policy options by March 1, 2005.
