Prince George, B.C., October 1, 2007 The Forest Industry Safety and Health Research Program (SHARP) and WorkSafeBC have partnered to create a fall safety campaign aimed at making people aware of the risks in the workplace. The 12-week TV and radio campaign, which begins October 1st, reminds everyone across the central Interior to stay safe on the job.
The fallout from a workplace injury or fatality is devastating on not only the worker, but their families, co-workers, their employer and the community, said SHARP trustee Terry Tate.
The campaign features a strong cautionary message to ensure workers don't just become a memory to their families. The ads feature family members reminding workers about safety so they can return to their families at their end of their workday. The campaign will cost $26,000 to implement.
That's a small price to pay for potentially a big payoff, said WorkSafeBC's communications director Scott McCloy. If we can prevent one workplace injury through this campaign it will have been worth it.
Last year, more than 173,000 workplace injuries, diseases, illnesses and fatalities were reported to WorkSafeBC and 160 workers died as a result of an injury or occupational disease.

WorkSafeBC
Serving 2.2 million workers and about 190,000 employers, WorkSafeBC is a provincial statutory agency governed by a Board of Directors and funded by employers. WorkSafeBC was born out of a compromise between BC's workers and employers in 1917 where workers gave up the right to sue their employers or fellow workers for injuries on the job in return for a no-fault insurance program fully paid for by employers. WorkSafeBC is committed to a safe and healthy workplace and to providing return-to-work rehabilitation and legislated compensation benefits to workers injured as a result of their employment.
