WorkSafeBC announces winners in high school video contest

Public service announcements promote young worker safety

May 24, 2007 — This morning, in a ceremony at Vancouver’s Fifth Avenue Cinemas, four high school students from Golden, B.C., were awarded first prize in WorkSafeBC’s 2007 student workplace safety video contest (view news release).

The contest, sponsored by WorkSafeBC, the Washington Marine Group, the BC Art Teachers’ Association, and London Drugs, challenged B.C. high school students to create short public service announcements on keeping young people safe at work.

“The goal is to get B.C. teens thinking and talking about workplace safety,” says Michael Guzmicky, a WorkSafeBC industry specialist. Ultimately, the videos will be used in school outreach programs and provided to employers for staff training sessions. They will also be aired on Shaw TV and YouTube.
