April 10, 2007 — Teleclaim — a new WorkSafeBC service designed to simplify the claim process and improve the timeliness of injury reporting — is coming to B.C.’s Interior and North. As of April 16, 2007, workers in those areas will be able to call WorkSafeBC directly to report a work-related injury that results in time away from work.
Today, injured workers are required to complete an application for compensation and submit it to WorkSafeBC. But the system — primarily paper based — offers limited opportunities for personal contact and can occasionally contribute to service delays.
That is about to change. Beginning April 16, injured workers in B.C.’s Interior and North can simply call Teleclaim to report their time-loss injuries rather than filling out a paper form. Callers will speak with a knowledgeable WorkSafeBC representative who will complete an injury report on their behalf, explain the claim process, answer questions, and direct them to services to assist with their recovery and return to work.
For employers, Teleclaim will facilitate more timely injury reporting and provide earlier return-to-work support for their injured employees.
For physicians, Teleclaim will help to deliver a more efficient billing system. (Read more about the benefits for workers, employers, and physicians).
Available province-wide this fall
Teleclaim represents a major shift in how WorkSafeBC provides service to injured workers. To ensure a smooth transition, WorkSafeBC is implementing the service in stages, beginning with Vancouver Island last October, to be followed by the Interior and North as of April 16. Teleclaim will be expanded to the Lower Mainland and all remaining areas of the province this fall.
