October 2, 2006 — At WorkSafeBC, we understand that a workplace injury can be extremely stressful — for workers, their families, and their employers. That's why we're striving to make the process of filing a claim as simple as possible. And that's why we've introduced Teleclaim — an all-new program to enhance our services to injured workers, employers, and physicians.
Teleclaim is designed to meet service priorities identified by workers and improve the timeliness and efficiency of injury reporting for all stakeholders.
Until now, to report injuries, workers completed an application for compensation and submitted it to WorkSafeBC's Claims Department. Because the system was primarily paper-based, it did not maximize opportunities for personal contact with workers when they first suffered an injury, and could lend itself to service delays.
As of October 2nd, 2006, through the launch of Teleclaim, WorkSafeBC will be phasing out its paper-based system and replacing it with a service that cultivates personal contact.
Workers on Vancouver Island can now report injuries simply by calling our Teleclaim Contact Centre. When they call, one of our representatives completes the injury report on their behalf, explains the claims process, answers their questions, and helps them obtain services to assist with their return to work.
By the spring of 2007, all other workers in B.C. will be able to call Teleclaim to report time-loss injuries.
If you live on Vancouver Island, and have missed work as a result of a workplace injury, please contact Teleclaim. The centre is open Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., at 1 888 WORKERS (1 888 967-5377), or #5377 for Telus Mobility, Rogers, and Bell Mobility customers. Visit Contact us for other WorkSafeBC telephone numbers.
Teleclaim posters and wallet cards that feature the Teleclaim telephone number are available, free of charge. Simply enter your order at www.worksafebcstore.com, and we'll deliver it to you. The poster is also available for download (PDF 289kb).
