On
October 4, 2001, a welder entered a confined space on a log barge. There
was an extreme oxygen deficiency and the worker lost consciousness. Four
more workers went in to rescue the welder and they too lost consciousness.
Uwe Gensemeyer, a truck driver from Fraser Lake, received a call for help,
went to the accident scene, and was instrumental in saving the lives of
four workers.
To recognize his heroic efforts, Diana Miles, vice president of WCB's Worker and Employer Services, recently presented Uwe with a Certificate of Recognition for his heroic efforts.
