Possible postal service disruption

Recent press reports indicate that there is the possibility of a disruption of service from Canada Post. As of Friday, July 18, 2003, the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) is in a legal position to strike.

Negotiations

In recognition of the progress made in current negotiations, the CUPW notified Canada Post that they would not participate in a work stoppage at this time.

Should there be a labour disruption resulting in rotating strike action by the CUPW, the WCB will continue to do business as usual. However, if a full Canada-wide strike or lockout occurs, the Workers' Compensation Board will implement contingency plans.

Contingency Plans

In the event of a strike, the WCB will implement contingency plans that include:

  • A process to distribute cheques and important documents to claimants from WCB facilities
  • Instructions for employers on how to continue submitting payments and important documents to the WCB electronically
  • Regular communication with our stakeholders
