Bridging the gap
Construction safety conference
November 20 and 21, 2009

This conference seeks to inspire those who work on B.C. construction sites, including construction safety officers, construction safety coordinators, and other safety professionals. It focuses on the need for continuous professional development and provides participants with the opportunity to learn and discuss a variety of health and safety issues that are identified in WorkSafeBC’s construction high-risk strategy.

The cost of the conference is $150 for both Friday and Saturday; for Saturday only, it is $55. Lunch is provided for participants on both days. The registration deadline is November 3, 2009. Register early to avoid disappointment (class size limited). CRSP certification maintenance points are available.

Human Factor Perspectives on Safety

WorkSafeBC and the Association of Canadian Ergonomists are pleased to present the Human Factor Perspectives on Safety conference. The conference will explore human factors as they relate to safety in the context of a systems approach and will be of interest to safety practitioners, ergonomists and human factor specialists, industry representatives, and health and safety committee members. It takes place on November 30 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the SFU Segal Graduate School of Business, 500 Granville St, Vancouver. To register, please visit the ACE web site. Early registration (before October 1) is $100, late registration (after October 1) is $150.

Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety Conference
Forum III: Leading the Change March 8 – 9, 2010

The Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS) is hosting Forum III:  Leading the Change, a two-day national event, taking place on March 8 and 9, 2010, in the national capital region. This two-day national conference will bring together subject experts, workers, employers, and governments to share their knowledge and experience around the rapidly evolving workplace.

Forum III will provide an opportunity for participants to explore and better understand how leadership in the workplace can significantly impact the health and safety needs of workers. Throughout the discussion topics of the internal responsibility system, participatory ergonomics, workplace violence, and training and knowledge transfer, a common thread becomes apparent — the critical role that leadership can play in affecting workplace change. Canadian Association for Research on Work and Health Conference:
Worker Health in a Changing World of Work
May 28-29, 2010

The next conference of the Canadian Association for Research on Work and Health (CARWH) will be held in Toronto on May 28-29, 2010, hosted by the Institute for Work & Health. The theme for the conference is, “Worker Health in a Changing World of Work.”

The purpose of the conference is to share cutting-edge research in the area of work and health. Stakeholders and researchers from a wide variety of disciplines will discuss research findings and exchange ideas about research in this field and its application to policy and practice to improve the health and safety of Canadian workers. A student symposium will take place one day before the conference on May 27.

Details on how to submit abstracts and proposals for symposia and workshops will be announced soon. Check the conference web site for more details as they become available.

 

2010 Annual Health Professional Conference

WorkSafeBC is proud to host the 2010 Annual Health Professional Conference, taking place on Friday, June 4, 2010, at the Vancouver Convention Centre (West building).

The conference will feature many experts in the field, including Sports Medicine Physician Dr. Karim Khan, professor in Human Kinetics and associate member of the Department of Orthopaedics at UBC. Also presenting will be Somatoform Disorders Neuropsychiatrist Dr. Trevor Hurwitz, professor in the Department of Psychiatry at UBC. More speakers will be announced at a later date.
