WorkSafeBC–Preventable Construction Signage Pilot Project

Preventable signageWorkSafeBC and The Community Against Preventable Injuries (Preventable) have joined forces to help keep construction workers and employers safe on the job. One of the ways they’re accomplishing this is through the “WorkSafeBC–Preventable Construction Signage Pilot Project.

The signage consists of posters positioned in work zones, with large signs on perimeter fencing and guardrails, and large magnetic signs on equipment.

The billboards ask workers to consider their assumptions about safety. They include: “You’re not expecting to be struck by mobile equipment today,” and “Only other workers need to tie-off at heights.”

Preventable sign at a job siteWorkSafeBC and Preventable worked with ITC, Kindred Construction, Lafarge Aggregate & Concrete, PCL, and Stuart Olson Dominion to position the messages around eight worksites. Five were on the Lower Mainland, one was in Esquimalt, one in Kamloops, and one in Prince George.

Many of the signs will be reused at other sites in the future.
